Beginning with WHISKY FROM SMALL GLASSES, the DCI Daley novels are set in Kinloch, a thinly disguised, fictitious version of Campbeltown, in Kintyre, on Scotland's remote west coast.
The novels feature DCI Jim Daley, and his redoubtable Detective Sergeant Brian Scott. Both former city cops, they soon discover that policing in a more rural area, away from the support and resources of Glasgow, presents its own unique problems.
With a cast of characters ranging from corrupt local officials, notorious gangsters in Witness Protection, Russian Oligarchs employing ruthless hit men, druids, dodgy politicians, drug dealers, and many more, the books have gained a wide following as well as much praise.
Meyrick is described by Waterstones, the UK's largest booksellers as 'Scotland's best new crime writer'. With brilliant reviews in the UK national press, and from their counterparts in North America, where the books have recently been published, Meyrick is steadily gaining a fine reputation.
Harper Collins have recently bought publishing rights to translate the books for the German market, and they are bestsellers in the UK in print and as eBooks. With audio books already available in the USA, they will shortly be released in that format in the UK and Germany.
The books are praised for their authenticity - Meyrick is a former Glasgow police officer - as well as their dark humour, descriptive nature and beguiling setting. Despite being crime novels, the warmth and humour of Kinloch's population shines through. It is a place where everyone knows everyone else, tight-knit and often impenetrable. The perfect background for the genre.
Meyrick is regularly compared to the greats of Scottish Crime fiction, including, Ian Rankin, Stuart MacBride, Peter May and Anne Cleeves
